Financing Your Business by Iris Lorenz-Fife

Financing Your Business

So far, so good. I polished off half the book and am much wiser for it. Lorenz-Fife tackles all the tough subjects--loans, angels, assets, bankers and financials--with understandable descriptions and tempered advice. But what makes the book valuable are the checklists she provides after each chapter. These questions challenge you to apply what you've learned and explore what you don't know. They are a great primer for preparing your business plan, for approaching lenders and for assessing your strengths and weaknesses.

The Granta Book of Reportage

The Granta Book of Reportage

I've only just begun reading this book; however, if the first story is any indication, I am in for a treat. In the first piece, Polish writer Ryszard Kapuscinski took me to the battlefields of Honduras and El Salvador's "soccer war". Fueled by an intense border rivalry, a home-and-home series of soccer matches sparked a flash war that lasted only a few days but cost thousands of lifes. Kapuscinski describes the war and how the media covered it through his own personal recollection. So we are off to a good start. I bought the book in part because William Zinsser recommended the journal, Granta, which first published articles collected in this book.
