Creative

In high school and college, I did a fair amount of creative writing, mainly plays and poems with a few short stories sprinkled in for added variety. I didn't produce much of merit. While in college, another poet called my poems "two by fours" because they strike you over the head. It was a pejorative remark that I took as a badge of honor. I collect a few of these poems into a booklet with a laminated cover titled "A Pile of Two by Fours." I no longer possess the booklet, but did recently unearth a few poems from an old cigar box.

Poems
Small Rooms
In small rooms, light burns through its own
we are all so consumed in the attempt
some claim we are burned
from where, we burn on thought alone
and for fear of burning run
-1994
What am I
If spirit is flame
what am I, cinder
as if I were anything
outside of smoulder
flaking from itself
itself from flaking
I burn
that is all
that is my nature, burning
without flame, without fallout
sheltering this
what is it that I was
for now, I am ash
-1994
Two of the Seven Dispossessed
Marriage:
White tissue papered
two bricks
breaking idle water

Sex:
Sucker wrap unglued
sweetness removed
krinkling under hard soled shoes
-1993
