Home / Writing My Writing If not for a small high school essay contest, I may never have become a journalist. I had never been particularly fond of writing. The teacher assigned and I wrote. And no matter how interested I was in the subject, once assigned, it lost all value. When I wasn't in school, however, I enjoyed making a good argument and vigorously exercising my imagination. But I never associated the pleasure of a point well made or a vision vividly conjured until one of my teachers announced a citywide essay contest at the end of class. The topic struck a personal chord. And I had something important to say, something that I must say and that I did say. My essay won the contest and prompted my guidance counselor to steer me toward journalism as a college major. Years later, I continue to have things to say, but I prefer to listen to and present the words and thoughts of others. In this section of my site, I've organized samples of my writing, primarily clips from publications that I've worked at or freelanced for. Please take a look. Clips
I've covered the speeches of scholars and statesmen; interviewed authors, described the work of dancers and visual artists, written about semiconductors (computer chips), chipmaking, electronics devices and the people shaping the electronics industry. Creative & Opinion
I've written a number of poems, a few short stories and a few playscripts. Though I am not particularly proud of most of these works, occasionally, I produce a gem or at least a few sequins. In addition, I like to write letters to the editor when the spirit or the news story moves me. Very soon I will post some of these creative and opinion writings--the good, the bad and the ugly--online in this section of my site.

Newsletter and Promotional Copy I create, write and edit email newsletters as well as promotional flyers and postcards. In this section, I've collected examples of my work as well as, in some cases, descriptions of the decisions made in reaching a final design.
