The First Newsletter - Electronic News Today 411
|
Email Newsletters Electronic News Redesign One year after Electronic News Today was established, it became apparent that a new, more sophisticated layout would be required in the months/years ahead. One, I was no longer the doing everything by myself. I had help writing news items. Two, advertising had picked up substantially with almost every day of the week booked by top-dollar sponsors. Three, cross-promotion meant access to writing from other publications within the Cahners Electronics Group, a brace of 17 publications and Web sites. To address these needs, I decided to separate technology-related news, such as R&D discoveries, new product launches and technology analysis from business-related news such as market forecasts, mergers and acquisitions and quarterly financial statements. I also implemented a numbering system so that readers would have an easy time jumping to articles whose headlines caught their eye. Scrolling down an email with a number in mind is much easier than trying to hunt for the appropriate text. Lastly, because of the "Today's edition sponsored by..." text, I added a double line to the newsletter's logo. This kept the tag line from interfering with the sponsor text directly below it.
