Chad & Midori Present: 92ND STREET Y CELEBRATES Saturday, January 8, 2005, 7pm-2am What's the best antidote for the cold--a little bit of rhythm. On Saturday, March 12, Midori and I host our annual nod to rhythm tap and classic big band jazz. The evening features Felix and All the Cats Big Band, playing classic big band favorites of Fletcher Henderson, Count Basie, Erskine Hawkins, Benny Goodman, and Earl Hines as well as special tribute tunes for the late Artie Shaw. An organizer of bands since his college years at Lehigh University, Felix Endico has played with the great jazz organists, including Wild Bill Davis, Jack McDuff, and with the bandleader Erskine Hawkins. He has always been inspired by the "Harlem" stride piano style of Wille the Lion Smith, and the South Side Chicago piano styles of Jess Stacey and Earl Hines. As an arranger, Endico draws inspiration from Fletcher Henderson, Jim Mundy & Gordon Jenkins. The evening begins at 7:00pm with a lesson in the basics of Lindy Hop (swing). From 8:00pm to 1:00am, there will be dancing to live music performed by the Felix and All the Cats. Two special dance performances highlight the evening-the Young Hoofers, fantastic young rhythm tappers (Think Noise/Funk: The Next Generation), and the Big Apple Lindy Hoppers promise to electrify the audience with their authentic styles. During the band's set breaks, we'll play mellow, medium and brisk tempo tunes from the Big and Small Band eras. Doors open at 6:45pm on March 12, 2005. Admission is $15 ($10 for students with valid ID) and includes complimentary wine and cheese, light snacks, coffee and tea.
