HIGHLIGHTS 92ND STREET Y SWING DANCE

Saturday, December 13, 7pm-1am
92nd Street Y on Lexington Avenue at 92nd Street
Admission $15/$8 Students w/valid ID

The 92nd Street Y celebrates the sound of Harlem, the Harlem Renaissance Orchestra, on Saturday, December 13, at Buttenweiser Hall along with special guests and a Lindy meets Latin performance.

The evening begins at 7:00pm with a dance lesson in the basics of the Lindy Hop (swing), the dance that Harlem gave to the world. From 8:00pm to 1:00am, there will be dancing to live music performed by popular 17-piece Harlem Renaissance Orchestra. Highlights of the evening include set opening performances by some of New York's best Lindy Hop dancers.

At 10:30pm, in the evening's featured peformance, Lindy Hop, Salsa and Tango dancers will riff off each other in an exciting fusion and interplay of dance forms, dubbed SwingFusion. Though well known home as the home of Lindy Hop, Harlem also played a key part in the development of Mambo (Salsa), which the performance and some of the evening's music will celebrate.

Doors open at 6:45pm on December 13, 2003. Admission is $15 ($8 for students with valid ID) and includes complimentary wine and cheese, light snacks, coffee and tea.
