I enjoy the challenges that new audiences present. Discovering the information needs of an industry or an organization and devising ways to satisfy those demands, from creating Web site and newsletters to designing logos, are deeply rewarding for me.

Writing/Editing
Right now, my challenge is reaching the education community. In my current position as center editor for the Center for Children and Technology (CCT), I write about educational technology for teachers, school administrators, policymakers and researchers. Spending most of my days surrounded by PhDs, I've had to learn many new terms such as "affordance" and "scaffolding" and fascinating concepts such as constructivist approaches to learning. I was hired to help redesign CCT's Web site, and, now that that's done, I am turning my attentions to establishing the organization's first email newsletter and cultivating relationships with the education press.

In addition to my work at CCT, I occasionally write freelance articles on technology for publications such as TheStreet.com.

Previously... I developed and ran ActorsUpdate (2000-2002), a Web portal dedicated to performing artists. I helped develop the Web site for Electronic News (1998), a weekly electronics industry newspaper, and participated in the creation of E-inSite (1999-2000), an information network combining the editorial output of 17 electronics industry publications. In the process, I've written for business people, engineers, performing artists, and, most recently, educators, reporting on everything from the latest microprocessors and high-tech gadgets to showbiz news and survival tactics to research findings shaping how tomorrow's schools use technology.
I've written news items, feature stories, commentaries and analysis pieces as well as marketing, promotions and advertising copy.

Design
Though I am not a graphic designer by trade, I do enjoy designing logos and graphics as a hobby. And, in the past few years, I've created a couple of successful logos, such as IT consulting firm SpireKnowledge's logo.
There is also something about conjuring catchphrases and summoning slogans for marketing/promotional materials that I like. I have done a fair amount of that work, too. When I was at Montage Magazine, I created much of the brochureware. Getting the word out about ActorsUpdate also required designing flyers and postcards with just the right mix of graphics mist and promotional grist.

Dance
My wife, Midori, and I teach dance at night at Sandra Cameron Dance Center. We also perform at festivals, special events and even weddings throughout the city. We love tap dance, lindy hop, blues and peabody. In our rehearsals of tap and lindy hop, we forged a new dance form that merges two American vernacular dances. We called this dance alloy, LindyHoofin'.
